PETA Protest Update

By Adelind Osmanlı reporting from Munich, Germany

Tarkan comments about PETA protest to TakvimIt has been brought to Tarkan Deluxe's attention via email from someone claiming to be from Tarkan's official camp, that Turkish newspaper Takvim has published an article with a comment from Tarkan about the PETA issue.

Headlined "I'm an animal lover", the short news story claims that the singer has spoken openly for the first time about this issue, revealing that the PETA campaign against the artist has "saddened" him.

"I accept that wearing fur is wrong," the artist reportedly said.

Explaining that simply because a person wears fur this doesn't necessarily mean he isn't an animal lover, Tarkan continued on the theme, "Everyone who knows me knows how much I love animals. I've looked after so many throughout the years. Now I'm thinking of joining an animal rights' movement."

Tarkan had been spotted wearing - what has now been verified as real - fur on the cover to his English language début album Come Closer and after months of unsuccessful talks between the artist's representatives and animal rights' group PETA, a campaign had been started against the singer for refusing to publicly "swear off" fur.

Tarkan Deluxe had warned in an earlier post of the consequences of Tarkan's camp not taking this issue seriously and had invited readers and fans to petition Tarkan via mail about wearing fur.
