White Tulips

your one side buried in earth,
the other side opening to spring sun,
velvet skin softened by the hand,
I peel your petals back,

summer has a hold and will not let go,
like cut white tulips in clear glass,
your dress filters light, a single black
line resting on clean, white paper.
