Nasty and not-so-nasty news nuggets picked from the press.

  1. A white Norwegian singer was sent death threats over a video in which a black man portrayed her lover.
  2. In the 1930s, the Germans were fascinated by the United States as the global leader in codified racism, while in the first ship to be sunk in the Second World War, Germans attacked an unarmed passenger liner and killed hundreds of civilians and Jewish refugees.
  3. Tens of thousands of racists and white supremacists have taken part in a controversial prayer day in Poland to mark the anniversary of a Christian victory over Ottoman Turks at the sea battle of Lepanto in 1571. Many Poles have refused to help Syrian refugees, believing Islam is out to destroy Europe.
  4. The plague is the deadly flea-borne bacterium associated with the Middle Ages, when the Black Death killed 50 million people, wiping out most of Europe's population. But it's still around today.
  5. Police say a white Wyoming man they arrested for public intoxication claimed he had travelled back in time from 2048 to warn of an alien invasion. The man told police he was only able to time travel because aliens filled his body with alcohol.
  6. Turkish archaeologists in Antalya believe they have found the tomb of the original Santa Claus, otherwise known as Saint Nicholas.
  7. Almost two-thirds of British schoolchildren would not mind if social media had never been invented, research suggests.
