The Best Words

Sometimes the best words
Are those unspoken -
The gargantuan weight
Of idiosyncrasies,
Considered luxuries,
And precious hoards
Need to be thrown away
To lighten the load,
When streets are impassable
For ordinary travellers
It's best to empty
The way through.

Lightly sugared in a wrap of jasmine,
Or fireworks crackling,
Sometimes the best words
Are those that keep
One foot on the shore,
And just dip in a toe or two,
Or like lace, identified by
Its nation of origin
And the hand who spun it,
Should be used to beautify
Or keep off the dust
On the furniture
Of our houses, too.
