A Turkish Summer with Tarkan

By Adelind Osmanlı reporting from Munich, Germany

Screencap of reportFemale correspondent Yeliz Aras, writing for Milliyet, has produced an article presenting the views of eight Turkish radio DJs and the songs they think are this summer's greatest hits.

Turkish megastar Tarkan appears in five of the eight top 5 DJ lists, with his 2010 album teaser track "Sevdanın Son Vuruşu" ("Love's Last Strike") coming top in two of the DJs' summer selections.

The Turkish Hits of the Summer

While coming top in the lists of Hakan Demir (Show Radyo) and Erkut Aktaş (Radyo Hitmix), the Tarkan track made second position for Gürdal Çakır (Istanbul FM) and Meltem Sezenler (Radyo Tatlises), and took number three spot as favourite track for Ömer Erişmen (Radyo Viva).

And as Aktaş comments that Tarkan's song has gotten the approval of music listeners and Çakır says Tarkan's album is the one everyone's waiting for - although Tarkan's teaser track doesn't make it into her list - Füsun Alkan (Best FM) comments that this summer's hits aren't limited to her top five, with artists like Tarkan certain to be one of the most talked about names this year.

Finally, radio DJ Michael Kuyucu (Radyo Klas) - who recently condemned Tarkan for a book dispute - completely ignores the Turkish megastar in his list for the Milliyet article, choosing to focus on his personal preferred artists instead.

Tarkan Deluxe correspondent Kaya Turan had previously written an article in response to Kuyucu's Tarkan-bashing post, to which Kuyucu had responded to the blog after reading the piece, but did not give Tarkan Deluxe permission to re-print his email.
