Time Out For Tarkan

Time Out's founder Tony Elliot spoke to Turkish daily Hürriyet recently, in a report that reveals Elliot's love for Istanbul whilst reminding readers of Time Out's front covers for its Istanbul publications - including the 2006 issue with Tarkan.

In hindsight, the Time Out interview with Tarkan is poignant as Tarkan's dreams to be embraced by America were quickly shattered, relegating the singer to the one-hit wonder annals of Europe and Latin America.

Time Out is a global magazine published by Time Out Group. It started its publication in 1968 and has expanded its editorial recommendations to 315 cities in 58 countries worldwide.

In other news, the Red Army Choir is set to hit the Istanbul stage in March. The news comes as Moscow and Ankara are cementing ties with cultural activities in 2019. Tarkan is set to give two shows in Russia this May - in Moscow and Kazan.

The Red Army Choir - or Alexandrov Ensemble - is an official army choir of the Russian armed forces. Founded during the Soviet era, the ensemble consists of a male choir, an orchestra, and a dance ensemble.

The choir's performances are popular in Turkey, and they are known for their renditions of Tarkan classics for their Turkish audiences. Tarkan had sung with the choir in 2017 for a private bank's anniversary celebrations.

Finally, a news wire has reminded its readers of the "scandalous" reality shows that had been the stock of daytime Turkish TV a few seasons back, where people looking for love on marriage shows had preoccupied the celebrity pages.

One such contestant, the article says, had made a name for herself by turning away every potential suitor for "not looking like Tarkan".
