Vernal Equinox
look up while it lasts,
a moon in spring
so full its bouquet
hangs ripe in the bowl of sky
as we lay
side by side and years away
struck by stars
with no idea we exist;
a tilt in orbit
and we have the seasons
and night fighting day,
I equal night
you of the spring
and what is brought forth on skin;
the daffodils and lillies die
clouds shed their tears
with the gentlest of sighs --
but we are no closer
to understanding
that the end is nigh
a moon in spring
so full its bouquet
hangs ripe in the bowl of sky
as we lay
side by side and years away
struck by stars
with no idea we exist;
a tilt in orbit
and we have the seasons
and night fighting day,
I equal night
you of the spring
and what is brought forth on skin;
the daffodils and lillies die
clouds shed their tears
with the gentlest of sighs --
but we are no closer
to understanding
that the end is nigh
