Don't Quote Love

Love is patient, love is kind.
It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud.
It is not rude, it is not self-seeking.
It is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs.
Love does not delight in evil, but rejoices with the truth.
It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.
Love never fails.

There are many types of love, and we can can get confused between descriptions.

People will often find human love lacking the description of love in the Bible. The closest I have ever seen to that type of love is the love my mother has for me, for which I will always be eternally grateful and sad. Grateful that I have known such a love, but sad that it will always be a high standard to whom no one else will easily compare.

Love is hard work. Love takes hard work. It is the incentive to emotionally invest in another person, depsite our failings. The above should be the standard - the utopia - that we try to aspire to within every moment of a loving relationship.

Modern romantic love almost never transpires as above, and such proverbs are not realistically plausible in modern times.

And yet, we still cannot do without it.

Compare these modern sayings:

Love is a fire.
But whether it is going to warm your heart or burn down your house, you can never tell.
