Good Company

the poor are starved
on fairy tales;
less esteemed than
the impoverished rich:

for they are seen
as a thematic itch
under the fur
of high society,

they may not know
Sunday afternoons
spent in feast,
or lazy luxury,

but they know
of the sun and rain
dancing like wild kittens
on rooftops in the city,

they may not keep
the best of times,
or contribute diligently
to the great economy,

yet Jesus was poor,
Mohammed too,
it seems the poor
are in good company.
