Invictus

Eros is not gentle
as it quarries the marble
of the heart,
a god's arrow chisels
instinctively the most
basic allegories of
faith and glory;

a muse for humanity,
of life
that gives and takes
from the same,

yet the sculptor struggles
with his unconquered medium,
pressing prints into its mud,
stone turns to water

that enters and leaves
taking everything, it's a pulsing
flood that beats against the dam,

no one can understand
its coming,
nor survive its
leaving.

________
The title is Latin for "unconquered".
