Hostage to Symphonies

inside a lettered running
are stanzas that hinge
beautifully against the other;
an ebb and flow of
poetic distillation dripping

with freshly-notated metaphors,
or the extraordinary
observance of banality
to give a mind-click!
sound of recognition,

syllables fill the internal
music box that fuzzes fragments
of a memory's song,
assonance dives splashing
in pools of sound,

though intoxicated
in one way or another,
never talking in slurred sibilants,
a hostage to secret symphonies
unknown even to itself,

verses climb stepping stone words
to hills of unseen other sides,
or blindly follow
a wind that rampages through
some dangerous part of town.
