The Word Obscure

A list of words obscured, obscure words or words with meaning we did not know discovered in news headlines.
  1. The word "naked" was once banned from British radio.
  2. The F-word is estimated to be used used 281 times in the movie The Big Lebowski.
  3. The word "Mingqutnguaq" is the Eskimo word for "rotten ice".
  4. The word "quidnunc" means one who gossips.
  5. The word "psithurism" is the sound of leaves rustled by the trees.
  6. The word "Libor" stands for the rate at which banks lend money to each other. It is a financial acronym for London Inter Bank Offered Rate.
  7. The word "eugenics" brings up meanings such as selective breeding and atrocities committed by the Nazis in modern times, but over one hundred years ago it was a relatively mainstream area of scientific research.
  8. The word endothelial is used for cells that line the human body's circulatory system.
  9. The word "lock" is the name for the currency of a scheme where members trade goods and services instead of money.
  10. The term "politically correct" is said to have been coined in an American Supreme Court case as far back as 1793.
