Tarkan for Eurovision 2010?
News hot off the Turkish presses claims that Tarkan has agreed a deal with Turkey's public broadcaster, Turkish Radio and Television Corporation (TRT), to represent Turkey in 2010's Eurovision Song Contest.
The truth of these claims have yet to be officially confirmed or rejected, however papers claim that an official statement will be made in a week's time to unveil Tarkan as Turkey's offering for next year's politically motivated song contest (pictured left).
When British music journalist Mark Mayhey was asked for his views on Tarkan's rumoured appearance for the contest, he commented, "In my view it would be an absolute disaster for Tarkan to enter the contest. If he does he signals that he has relegated himself to the Eurotrash of musical history - what next? George Michael to sing for the UK?
"If Tarkan sings in the 2010 contest, then we at Tarkan Deluxe should just pack our bags and go home."
Tarkan Finally Relents?
For years there have been calls for Tarkan to enter the contest, with Tarkan refusing the offer each year.
This year, Stig Svante Stockselius, currently the Head of Song Contests at the European Broadcasting Union (EBU), and the executive supervisor of the Eurovision Song Contest (ESC) and the Junior Eurovision Song Contest had reportedly invited Tarkan to enter the contest to raise its profile.
"We'd be real happy if Turkey would send us Tarkan in 2010," he had been quoted as saying.
