Phonetically Conjoined

Why do prophet and profit
phonetically conjoin as though
brothers - for what have they to gain?
war bounty, wealth, celebrity, fame,
the reverence of their name?

I then ask why does love
rhyme with the word above?
surely not as an indication
from where it came? or where it
takes us when it finds us
yearning for its flame?

and if you trace their histories,
I wonder if these idiosyncrasies
in their English stories are replicated
elsewhere, or if these are mere
coincidences and a poet's play on words
that bring death to life's game:
one with honour, the other shame.
