Tarkan's Farewell to Respected Doyenne
Legendary Turkish classical music performer Senar was laid to rest Tuesday morning after a brief funeral ceremony performed at Istanbul's Bebek mosque. Tarkan was present among a number of famous Turkish names gathered at the yard of the mosque before the ceremony, to say a final farewell to one of the classical music greats of the last century.

Tarkan is another high profile fan often mentioned with Senar. He sang a duet with the doyenne in 1998, and continued to visit her even when she completely withdrew from public life after a stroke in 2006. Back in 2007, during a visit in rehabilitation, Tarkan had bought Senar pink walking shoes on Valentine's Day as an incentive to "get up and dance".

A few days before this Valentine's Day, and a few months before her 97th birthday, Senar passed away peacefully in her sleep to one final encore. She leaves behind a son and daughter and grandchildren, alongside countless admirers of a bygone generation.
