  1. Sunny Jacobs' husband Jesse was executed in horrific circumstances in the US. The electric chair malfunctioned and instead of dying he caught fire and it took 13 and a half minutes before he was finally pronounced dead. It later came to light he was innocent.
  2. In the UK, a congregation member has been charged with attempted murder after a stabbing inside New Jerusalem Apostolic Church in Birmingham, while a Dallas gunman has killed seven people watching the Dallas Cowboys, before being shot dead by police in Texas.
  3. After Hurricane Harvey hit Texas, Irma is blasting up the west coast of Florida with Jose following on its heels, and the damage is likely to exceed Katrina.
  4. A British doctor is being investigated over complaints about her giving gender-change hormones to children as young as 12.
  5. Psychiatrists and criminologists believe that not all child abusers are paedophiles, and define paedophilia as a "paraphilic disorder" - a form of mental health condition where an adult has a primary sexual attraction to pre-pubescent children.
  6. The bodies of hundreds of children are believed to be buried in a mass grave in Lanarkshire, southern Scotland, according to an investigation by BBC News. The children were all residents of a care home run by Catholic nuns.
  7. Myanmar's security operation against Muslim Rohingyas "seems a textbook example of ethnic cleansing", the UN says.
  8. India has lodged a diplomatic protest with Australia over an advert depicting the Hindu god Ganesha enjoying lamb.
  9. Traditionally, eating together has not been encouraged in India. Men and children are fed first and only then can women sit down to eat.
  10. The world's highest-paid YouTube star, 27-year-old Swede PewDiePie, has used the "n-word" during an online broadcast. He has previously had to defend himself over allegations of anti-Semitism, and was suspended from Twitter for making jokes about so-called Islamic State.
