Comment: Tarkan's Art Makes Him Beautiful

Posted by Steffan Matrak from Moscow, Russia and Hatice Soylu from Istanbul, Turkey

Turkish singer and actress Yeşim Salkım (pictured right) has commented on Tarkan being spotted at the German Consulate General in Istanbul, and the press rumours that the artist is relocating to Germany.

Chairing a daytime celebrity panel on Lifetime TV that comments on celebs and the issues of the day, Salkım made some striking comments about Turkish pop's iconic megastar - in defence of his wife.

The entire panel was of the same mind that Tarkan's recently released "wedding" music video to "Beni Çok Sev" - in memory of the real one performed in Germany last year - was great, but touched upon the "surprise coupling".

When the male member of the panel reminded the ladies of past unkind comments made towards the year-old bride's appearance, Salkım jumped to her defence.

"Tarkan isn't handsome anymore; he is old and a midget. Like Tom Cruise. That handsome youth has gone. It's Tarkan's music that makes him so great in our eyes; I think his wife is a lovely lady with a face full of character and they make a lovely couple. I heard his wife say somewhere when she was asked if she felt lucky she had snagged Tarkan, she said that maybe he was the lucky one...she could be right."

Talk turned to Tarkan's wife being a Turkish German-born citizen and that this gave Tarkan spousal rights to apply for citizenship or a residence permit to move to his wife's country of birth.

Tarkan was born in Germany, but gave up German citizenship when he became a Turkish citizen in the 80s.

If Tarkan became a German citizen again, he would be able to travel more freely in Europe and the US for shows, as with the current political climate incurring travel visa restrictions between Turkey and the West, the singer could easily run into trouble at border controls.
