Tarkan's Lunar Love

Posted by Hatice Soylu from Istanbul, Turkey

Tarkan has broken social media silence to post about a lunar event that has been dazzling skywatchers this evening.

The iconic singer has shared a picture on his Instagram account of the rare "super blue blood moon" event. The image is by Paul Kozal, owner of the Studio 391 Fine Art Gallery in California.

The rare celestial show happens when a total lunar eclipse, a blue Moon and a supermoon coincide to give the illusion of a great red orb in the sky in certain parts of the world.

The lunar eclipse turns the Moon red - creating a so-called "blood Moon". A blue Moon occurs when a full moon happens twice in one month, and a supermoon occurs when the Moon is closest to the Earth.

Last year also saw a spell of extraordinary lunar wonders. The Moon produced a series of extraordinary spectacles - from blood moons to eclipses, blue moons to super moons, to bring us the magic of the moon as never seen before.

However the last time all three events coincided on the same night was 152 years ago.
