Of Trees
Evergreen leaves wear silver shoes
Come the winter; or branches that lose
Their bushy hair: willow the enchanter's tree,
Or alder and birch, pine and rowan,
Droplets of amber unfold like honey
On the horizon of furry, crackly bark:
Lungs of the air, the earth joins hands
In their roots, with hazel for healing,
Apple for feeding, holly for the holy,
Trees of life: Pillars of the world.
