Diva Drops Tarkan Teaser

Posted by Kaya Turan from Rochester, UK

Diva Bülent Ersoy and Tarkan have dropped teasers to their long awaited collaboration - released tomorrow.

The artists' social media shares showcase a song that heavily rests on Middle Eastern motifs, in melody and visuals, and a Tarkan featuring noticeably absent on the track apart from some indiscernible backing vocals. The press has described the song as a duet until now, but it's likely Tarkan pulled featuring over clashes on the track.

UPDATE: Diva releases Tarkan track >>

Don't expect Tarkan to appear on the music video either: It's directed by photographer-director Nihat Odabaşı. The openly gay director's professional relationship with Tarkan ended after photographs from a private shoot were published against the singer's wishes, making Odabaşı persona non grata with Tarkan ever since.

The rift occurred in 2000 between the megastar and Odabaşı after the photographer sold photos of Tarkan taken during an intimate shoot without his permission. The raunchy photos published in a national magazine saw a relaxed Tarkan just out of military service do a striptease of sorts, revealing a thatch of pubic hair in sensuous poses.

Track's Troubled History Stole Hope of Release

The awaited single has had a torturous path to release. The eagerly anticipated studio collaboration between trans diva Ersoy and Turkish pop's megastar was rumoured to be slated for release as far back as June last year. The song's protracted history had also caused a brief crisis between diva and popstar, with delays reportedly over a change in musical direction.

The musical arrangements by pop music producer Ozan Çolakoğlu were said to have been passed over for Turkish classical maestro - and diva favourite - Taşkın Sabah, which indicated a traditional take on the Tarkan penned "Ümit Hırsızı" (Thief of Hope).

All this has now been confirmed nearly a year later with the impending drop of the song on streaming sites on 22 March.

The drop date published previously has also been confirmed by the teasers on social media.
