Tourism Ambassador Award for Tarkan
Reported over a month ago at Tarkan Deluxe, Turkish news channels are now confirming the news that Tarkan has been awarded an honorary award for his contributions to the Turkish tourism industry.
Amongst other media sites, Gazeteport reports that the artist had been awarded an honorary Crystal Globe award for his contributions to tourism at the 1st Manavgat Crystal Globe convention in May but had been unable to attend, and will be presented with the award when he performs at the 15th Barış Suyu Turkish Culture and Tourism Festival in Manavgat on 21 June.
The artist is accredited with doing more to promote Turkey than any other artist of his - or any other - generation with his successes, including his pull of bringing Russian tourists to his home shows.
The news reports also write that due to Tarkan's concert, hotel bookings have risen by 15% in the region and that hotels are booked to 100% capacity.
Attendance numbers are expected to be close to 80,000 with 250 VIP guests attending the gala performance. The front stalls have been reserved for tourists and the young, with restrictions on pregnant women and the elderly for fear of any stampedes.
The Turkish pop star is expected to sing his 2007 tracks, and old classics, too, including a special request to perform the Turkish classical piece "Yıldızların Altında" ("Underneath the Stars"), which has strong connections with the region as a gesture of goodwill to the Manavgat public.
Reportedly the Manavgat mayor will personally present the eagerly awaited pop star with his award on stage when he appears in Manavgat this Saturday to give a free public concert at the festival.
