Tarkan Sings for Tiny Hearts
As first published at Tarkan Deluxe, newspaper reports are writing that Tarkan has performed at a fund-raiser at the luxurious Çırağan Palace Kempinski Hotel in Istanbul for charity Mika-DER, short for the "Minik Kalpler ile El Ele Derneği" (Together with Tiny Hearts Society), for the benefit of young children in care.
With such headlines as "Tarkan Made High Society Dance", a variety of papers including Sabah, Star Gazete, Haberturk's H2, Akşam, Takvim and Güneş all report that the multi-award winning artist took to the stage free of charge to entertain 500 specially invited guests from high society to raise money for children in need.
They write ticket prices were sold for £500 TL each, and that over three quarters of a million pounds was raised during the event in which Tarkan put on a 2.5 hour show of 21 songs that drove the usual suave crowd to "go mad" and let their hair down.
The high octane singer made a promise to participate at future fund-raisers, with Turkish news agency DHA quoting Tarkan from his song "Kuzu Kuzu" (Karma, 2001), to say that he had come "like a lamb" for the little ones.
"I'd do anything for them. You've always got my support. Here's to signing off more projects in more cities together," he said.
Tarkan's Sweet Kiss for Mika-Der
Meanwhile, Hürriyet columnist Ömür Gedik has written about the society evening in her recent column, where she is full of praise for the singer, and reveals that Tarkan will be releasing an album in 2010.
Revealing that she hadn't watched Tarkan perform in a long time, "if I said that I wasn't excited I'd be lying," she wrote.
She managed to get backstage through the tightened security of electronically sealed doors and security guards, claiming that she hadn't seen this type of protection when she had interviewed Lenny Kravitz after a concert in Spain two years ago.
"I liked it, our star should be like this I said to myself. Greeting me in his sweetest manner, dressed in shorts and vest, Tarkan was just as excited as those waiting... He was saying, "It's been a long while since I've taken to the stage for such an event, I hope I do good in the name of the kids."
"He was saying this so sincerely that I thought I needed to put his mind at ease. "The evening is going to be great. The air's electric. Everyone is dying to see you out there," I said. His face, his beautiful eyes smiled.
"So, it doesn't matter how many years pass, or even if you're a megastar, I guess the excitement and tension never goes. And maybe that's what makes the great so great, that they never lose the excitement of the performance."
Gedik also wrote that Tarkan had announced from the stage that Tarkan will be releasing a new album in the first half of 2010, while providing notes on the singer's performance.
Writing that the singer finished off his show with Turkish classical pieces, "Tarkan started the show by grabbing the attention of every high society guest there with his powerful pop; rocked them out of their seats with his rhythmic songs.
"We all know his voice is spell-binding, but his performance, his dance, the lights and stage and live music were all amazing," she declared.
