Is Tarkan Losing Turkey?

By Adelind Osmanlı reporting from Munich, Germany

The TarkanPLUS blogsMedia blog TarkanPLUS has posted about Turkish paper Milliyet's celebrity journalist Ali Eyüboğlu's column today which claims that Tarkan's popularity is diminishing in Turkey.

In Eyüboğlu's report, he bases his conclusion on the results polled in by global market research company Ipsos KMG, which show a gradual decline in the artist's popularity amongst the public between the years 2008-2010.

Meanwhile, a 17 January dated column by Milliyet music critic Mehmet Tez titled "What is Turkey currently listening to the most?" reveals that Tarkan is missing from both artists and albums lists in Turkey based on Gracenote - a company that maintains and licenses an Internet-accessible database of music.

The Ipsos KMG survey results are of people opinions and Gracenote's collected data published on its music map is based on tracks being played the most at that current time in the country.

They do not indicate album sales or official chart airplay lists, but they are indicative of general public opinion.
