Seeing the New Year In with Tarkan
Media portal Haberturk reports on Tarkan's New Year performance in Antalya, Turkey, writing that the singer gave "a spectacular concert to 500 people" who applauded him after every song.
Golden Gilded Tarkan
The reports write that Tarkan came out wearing golden decorations on his stage costume in a nod to the luxurious hotel's heavy usage of gold during its construction, when he appeared ten minutes into the new year - and the new decade - during what Haberturk called "an unforgettable night".
Meanwhile, paper Hürriyet called Tarkan's show a "Megastar Storm at Mardan" and provided photographs of Tarkan's golden bling distributed by news agency DHA (pictured top, left and below), and paper Takvim ran an account under the headline "Golden Star" revealing that the gold jewellery was a gift from the hotel owner, Russian-Azeri businessman Telman Ismayilov.
Writing that the complete gold set specially designed for Tarkan was worth $75,000, the Takvim article goes on to state that the celebrities that had come to the opening of the hotel last year had been given similar gifts, with singer Tom Jones given the ring, actress Monica Bellucci given the bracelet, actor Richard Gere the belt and the hat going to Paris Hilton.
However, Tarkan was seen wearing the gold ornaments on stage in Moscow during his three-stop tour in Russia this year, and the pictures released by the DHA are remarkably similar to the singer's 21 November show in the Russian capital.
Staging the show at the hotel's Dolmabahçe Rooms, Haberturk writes Tarkan stayed on the stage until 02.40 in the morning, while paper Sabah, also making mention of his golden entrance in the few lines it gave the show, timed it as lasting 2.5 hours.
Sabah's financial sections did mention the opulent show in more detail, however, to write that tax authorities would be carefully inspecting the event, with Star Gazete explaining that they were making sure illegal workers or illegal exports were not being used to evade paying tax duties.
Tarkan Songs in Tbilisi
And finally, Turkish taxmen and party-goers in Antalya were not the only people to see the new decade in with Tarkan.
In a year where millions of people celebrated the arrival of a new era out in the streets, in the capital of Georgia, Tbilisi, people danced to Tarkan songs, Milliyet writes.
