Press Snippets: Amongst the Greats

By Adelind Osmanlı reporting from Munich, Germany

"Tarkan Remains Great"

Screencap of reportA Turkish blogger of celebrity style and fashion dismissed most of the celebrities that attended the 16th Kral VMAs as shabby apart from the main stars of the evening, Tarkan and Ajda Pekkan.

The Moda ve Sosyete blogger writes: "As long as he doesn't try to pimp up some image and stays natural Tarkan remains great. His outfit was energetic and totally Tarkan And I loved his latest song."

"Tarkan's Great Performance"

Female Sabah columnist Ayşe Özyılmazel in her 20 May dated article, although critical of the new award categories chosen for this year's 16th Kral VMAs, praised the organisation when it came to Tarkan.

"Tarkan's opening was a great event, surpassing many organisations, and past Kral VMAs," Özyılmazel writes.

Most Loved Cover Songs

Female correspondent Nilay Örnek, writing for media portal Haberturk in an article dated 17 May, has written about Turkish artists covering songs made popular by other Turkish artists.

Although Turkish megastar Tarkan didn't make it into the published list of "most loved cover songs", he is mentioned in a list of artists that have sung Turkish covers, namely Mazhar Alanson's "Yandım" (Karma, 2001) and Aşık Veysel's "Uzun Ince Bir Yoldayım" (Dudu, 2003).

"Yandım" is not strictly a cover, as Tarkan sang it first before Alanson sang his own rendition in his 2002 album Türk Lokumuyla Tatlı Rüyalar (Sweet Dreams with Turkish Delight).
