Tarkan News Entertainment Bytes Extra

By Adelind Osmanlı reporting from Munich, Germany

TarkanIn an extra quick look at news coverage including Tarkan, first up are style related accounts, with one-time Tarkan make-up artist Çetin Koyuncu in a report about his dreams to open up an academy, and a narrative that Tarkan's mohican style haircut is a Rihanna copy.

However, in more directly related Tarkan news and previously reported by Tarkan Deluxe, papers have printed the buzz over an agreement with the recording artist to become the face of fresh citrus products exported from Turkey to Russia for the Citrus Promotion Group, with commercials filmed by Turkish director Ezel Akay.

Screencap of reportIt's stated that Tarkan's face will promote Turkish foods in Moscow and St. Petersburg on 80 billboards, 66 buses and 12 national magazines, with three different TV commercials filmed with the star to air on 4 major stations in Russia for seven weeks (see left pic).

Elsewhere in other reports, honoured as a peacemaker and virtuoso and one of the most sought-after Turkish musicians living in the United States, Omer Faruk Tekbilek has mentioned Tarkan in an interview published by Turkish paper Star Gazete.

Known for his performances with the ney instrument in a Sufi style, the musician revealed that although he doesn't have a lot of time to listen to mainstream music, he listens to Tarkan and Sezen Aksu "with great pleasure".

Meanwhile, the Turkish press also chronicles that Aksu, ending off her busy concert schedule for this year in Istanbul, has signalled she may stay away from the stage for a while to "tend to her garden" and rest.

The reports write that at her finale show Aksu sang her composition - and popular Tarkan track - "Şıkıdım" (A-acayipsin, 1994) which they claim she has kept out of her live repertoire for some time.

Reading as though Aksu sang the song to "reclaim" her ownership over it after Tarkan had sang it with Turkish pop diva Ajda Pekkan during a surprise visit to her Harbiye open air concert on 20 August this year, the reports seem to suggest that Aksu was sending a message to Tarkan.

On stage with Pekkan, Tarkan had changed the words of the song to sing, "Oh superstar Ajda you're something else!" - while the news stories write that Aksu put her own name to the refrain at her finale show.
