Tarkan in the PETA Files

By Adelind Osmanlı reporting from Munich, Germany

Tarkan's ad for PETAThe blog the PETA Files has recently run an interview with Tarkan after he appeared in an ad for the animal rights organisation.

Headlined as "Turkish Pop Legend Takes It All Off" the post describes Tarkan as "the Turkish Elvis" and an "international musical phenomenon" who is also a friend to animals.

The article reveals that Tarkan posed with Penny, a PETA staff member's rescued pooch, to urge people to help control the animal overpopulation crisis by having their animal companions spayed or neutered, while publishing an interview he did with PETA Germany.

Amongst answering questions such as how PETA entered his life, and his opinions on how to make the lives of animals better, Tarkan says he currently has four rescued dogs that live with him on his ranch in Istanbul.

Stripping for PETA

The Turkish papers had reported last October that Tarkan told reporters on his return from America he had stripped for PETA.

In an interview with Joshua Katcher for his blog "The Discerning Brute" at a New York charity fund raiser last year, Katcher had spoken of Tarkan's collaborations with PETA after the singer had "sworn off" fur.

Tarkan was confronted by PETA in 2008 for wearing fur on the cover of his début English language album, in which Tarkan Deluxe had backed the animal rights' campaign against the star.
