Papers Say Tarkan to be Charged
Turkish paper Sabah has run a release from news agency Anadolu Ajans (AA) that writes Tarkan is to be charged and tried for drug offences, following his arrest in March following an anti-drug sting (see left pic).
The article writes that along with 16 other suspects, Tarkan might be charged with drug possession. If the artist pleads not guilty and is found guilty he could face a jail term of up to two years.
However, if the singer pleads guilty, it is reported that the prosecution has suggested instead of jail time that the artist go on probation and enter into a rehabilitation program.

The possibility of the singer facing a two-year jail term has hit the other Turkish media channels, too, with organs such as Milliyet, Haberturk, CNN Turk and NTVMSNBC running the headlines on the front pages of their websites (see here).
With variety sections and celebrity portals also picking up the story, many are now left wondering if charges are brought against Tarkan, how he will plead.

Under Turkish legal procedure, it is possible for the artist to be freed from the charges on indictment, but that decision is made on the day of the preliminary hearing.
Elsewhere, the news has already hit the press in the Netherlands, with reports stating that Tarkan will be up for charges of drug possession and use, with the possibility of imprisonment looming against the singer.
Regional Dutch papers the Leidsch Dagblad and Edestad have both run the same piece, headlined as "Two Year Jail Term for Tarkan" (see left pic).
The reports write that Tarkan was taken into custody for questioning after a six month undercover operation by Turkish police, and that public prosecutors are asking for the artist to be charged with drug possession, after it's reported that a small quantity of drugs was seized from the singer's ranch in Istanbul.
