Press Snippets: Looking Forward and Back

By Adelind Osmanlı reporting from Munich, Germany

Screencap of reportThe Turkish press coverage of Turkish recording artist Tarkan sees two reports from paper Milliyet, one out of Sabah and one from the columns of media portal Haberturk (see left pic).

While Milliyet's article on the latest update to Tarkan's drug case (picked up by Posta, too) writes that "drugs were found in every corner" of the singer's villa during the 26 February raid by narcotic police, Hamdi Türkmen in his column for Milliyet reminisces about the Çeşme International Water Sports Festivities and Music Festival, which is celebrating its 21st year this year.

Noting it has grown into a reputable event that had even hosted Turkey's own megastar, "Tarkan's finale [last year] was so amazing as to be unforgettable," he writes.

Meanwhile, Esin Övet in her Haberturk column states that Tarkan is releasing a new album while his ex-girlfriend Bilge Öztürk is getting married.

"Tarkan is trying to put the dark days behind him and has completely given himself up to his work. He's counting down now for the release of the album. Hopefully we're going to hear those songs we've missed so much from him. I'm happy."

Elsewhere, on the subject of businesswoman and lawyer Öztürk, paper Sabah and HTmagazin claims that she lashed out at reporters, when asked about Tarkan and what she thought about his current court case after taken into custody for suspicion of drug use.

It's claimed she said, "It's water under the bridge. What's it got to do with me!"
