Thousands Gather for Tarkan

Posted by Steffan Matrak from Moscow, Russia

Under the traditional hashtag of #TarkanZamanı (#Tarkantime) the king of pop's annual Istanbul open air concerts at the Harbiye's Cemil Topuzlu amphitheatre kicked off this evening.

The opening concert was witness to a jam-packed audience of celebs and admirers gathering in their thousands to listen to Tarkan sing live.

A mega-icon of the golden age of nineties Turkish pop, Tarkan met his diehard fans with his 2017 studio album 10, and as an inherent part of the yearly open air shows, he was greeted with a crammed arena of music lovers, more excited and enthusiastic than the last.

Thousands waited in a sold out arena, in the dark with baited breath and shining smartphones as Tarkan appeared from beneath the stage to a rising sea of screams and chants.

The pop icon started off his set with the chart busting first single "Yolla" off his record breaking album.

On a stage lit with fire and streaked with stage fog, Tarkan and his audience shared an evening they would never forget.

"Love Me as Much as I Love You"

Concert reports from the Turkish press quote Tarkan expressing his joy over the reception to his 2017 album. Speaking out to the thousands singing along in one voice, he is quoted to have said:

"I'm so happy that you love my latest album. I worked on it night and day for four years... I was born to sing. Love me a lot, because I love you very much, so much."

Tarkan's summer series at the Harbiye continues tomorrow and then on the 4-5, 8-9-10 dates in July.
