Cyprus Comes Closer with Tarkan
The port town of Kyrenia in the northern part of the island is hosting the event, the largest organisation in its recent history.
Greek Cypriots from the internationally recognised southern part of the island will also dance with Tarkan and his songs, with 3,000 tickets reserved for fans of Tarkan in the Cyprus republic.
The concert is being hailed as a "concert for peace", with Tarkan being the first artist ever to gather such a large crowd of Turkish and Greek Cypriots together in one place.
Many political dignitaries and local stars from all across the island will also be attending the event.
On his arrival, Tarkan was greeted by a mass of media attention. When asked what messages he had for peace in Cyprus, he is quoted to have said: "I'll make my statement on stage". He said he was also excited by the news that Greek Cypriots would be attending the concert. "This is what my music is all about, to bring people closer together. There is nothing we can't share."
After having last been in this part of the world eight years ago, Tarkan is finally back in northern Cyprus on the first leg of his international tour, for a sell-out concert following the release of his debut English language album.
