Press Snippets: News in Brief Extra

By Adelind Osmanlı reporting from Munich, Germany

Megastar's Gift to Singer

As previously published in a March interview with singer Kibariye, paper Sabah now reports that Tarkan has given the singer a song for her latest album.

The article says that Kibariye called Tarkan asking for a song, to which he reportedly readily replied that any song in his catalogue was open for her to take for free.

She is to give her rendition of Tarkan's "Istanbul Ağlıyor" (Metamorfoz, 2007) for her upcoming album, Özlem Avcı writes for Sabah.

Singer Kibariye had duetted with Tarkan in 2006.

Right-wing Columnists on Tarkan

Screencap of reportsWhile Bugün correspondent Aykut Işıklar mentions Tarkan in briefly when listing him amongst a series of celebrity names that should realise they are role models for the masses and act accordingly, columnist Bilal Özcan's piece focus entirely on the Turkish megastar (see left pic).

Headlined "Cracked Pop Artists", Özcan writes about Tarkan's May 2010 song "Sevdanın Son Vuruşu" ("Love's Last Strike").

"Tarkan has sent the radios a song from the album he's releasing soon, as if to say to the media critical of his last albums, "Come on and criticise this if you can. And this is only the beginning..."

"It's been so long since I've heard a proper Tarkan song. When I heard this I thought that Tarkan hasn't lost his talent. But I am still wary. Why? Because of the Metamorfoz disaster two years ago...

"They're saying now "Sevdanın Son Vuruşu" is nothing yet...there are much better songs than that on the album! I hope to God it's true. But I don't believe any artist that says, "My songs are great, my album is wonderful. This is different than all the rest."

"I'm tired of the rantings of so many egomaniacs...What's important is this: what points I will give to the songs after I've listened to the album. The rest is rubbish.

"Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. A man releases an album, no one likes it; the album doesn't sell. But in every report he can't stop praising the songs...the world is filled with many such cracked pop artists.

"Tarkan shouldn't be offended by what I write here. Hopefully all the good things being said about the album are true. In this way he'll have returned to his old charisma, and free himself from all his problems and climb back up again."

Listen to Tarkan

Celebrity portal Gecce has run an article about Florida's Star Island - recently come to the Turkish media's attention with the rumours Tarkan is thinking of moving there - where the writer suggests at the end of her piece to listen to Tarkan's May 2010 track.

"Let's listen to Sevdanın Son Vuruşu, remember dearly departed Aysel Gürel and fill ourselves up with love and lament," Azra Ayşegül Ok writes.
