Celebrity portal Uçankuş has placed iconic singer Tarkan as their top trending star for the year, while business site Marketing Türkiye has published the top sellers in music, books and games nationwide at D&R.
One of Turkey's largest chains for books and music, entertainment store D&R has published its most popular items of 2017 with Tarkan's album 10 as the highest selling album of the year in the domestic music category - outselling all other albums even though it was released in the latter part of 2017.In similar end-of-year lists, Turkish streaming site fizy released its most popular of 2017, charting Tarkan in first and third place with "Yolla" and "Beni Çok Sev". He was named most sought-after performer on Biletix, top of Apple Music and iTunes Turkey, and the most streamed Turkish male artist on Spotify and Youtube.
"Tarkan Smashes All Statistics"
In a lengthy interview with Tarkan's current music label exec Samsun Demir for Turkish daily Hürriyet, the controller of Turkish pop music says he was "born to serve the stars".
In the report, hosted by celeb journo Cengiz Semercioğlu, Demir said that his music label saw a 25-30% rise in sales in 2017, thanks in large part to Tarkan, whom he calls a "team-player".
Publishing lists of the year's top crop in the report, Demir went on record to say, "Tarkan is a man that smashes all recorded statistics. We're talking about a man whose album has sold 400,000 copies. He is in a very special place. Everyone has to accept this."
Elsewhere, not everyone is so accepting, however. Openly gay, and often fickle, Oben Budak has published his "Personal 2017 Sweets", unceremoniously dumping Tarkan out of his end-of-year favourites.
Habertürk's camp correspondent said that although he had "embraced" the iconic singer's album, he had quickly tired of it after only a month. He found he was only listening to one song, "Çok Ağladım".
Budak has seemingly backtracked from his vocal praise of Tarkan's album on its release, when he told other artists to "make way for the king".
