Tarkan "Burns" With Gaga's Loss

Posted by Steffan Matrak from Moscow, Russia

Turkish pop music's megastar has posted a moving post to his musician friend Yaşar Gaga after the news of his sudden death hit the headlines this morning.

UPDATE: Tarkan absent from Gaga's funeral >>

Opting to post a video with the late Gaga and himself pictured in the studio to the soundtrack of "Ceylan", a song they worked on together, Tarkan wrote that Gaga's loss "burnt his heart" and to "rest in peace my friend". It garnered over 150,000 views in it first thirty minutes of posting.

Singing the song "Ceylan", about the senseless death of a young Kurdish girl, gave a new dimension to the lyrics penned by Gaga's closest friend Sezen Aksu in Tarkan's touching tribute today.

The track was released on Gaga's 2017 album Alakasız Şarkılar, under Poll Production's ticket, and proclaimed to be the "duet of the year", as Gaga had managed to unite two of Turkish pop's biggest icons, Tarkan and Aksu, for the song.

It hit the headlines for raising awareness over the civilian casualties of armed disputes, and the song was published with two different arrangements by Kivanch K and Mustafa Ceceli.

Considering that the Aksu song was reported about as far back as 2010, rumoured to have been slated for Tarkan's studio release of that year, the song has a long history between the two artists.

Kurdish news wires had also carried the story of the song, saying that Turkish artists were giving support to minorities in Turkey.
