The Public and the Private
Four news stories about Tarkan made the rounds in the Turkish press today. Two were rumours about private matters, a third publicised Israeli model and Tarkan's co-star Liraz Dror's visit to Istanbul, while a fourth news bulletin confirmed Tarkan's appearance at a future summer Turkish festival - which Tarkan Deluxe broke the story about over a month ago.
Tarkan: The Public
The Cihan News Agency has reported again that Tarkan will be giving a concert at the 15th Barış Suyu Turkish Culture and Tourism Festival in Manavgat, Antalya. Promotional posters and CDs have been prepared to promote the upcoming event, confirming Tarkan's participation at the festival.
To be held between the dates 19-21 June 2008, it's planned for Tarkan to make an appearance on the final day of the festivities, which will be free for the attending public.
Between the Taurus Mountains to the north, and the sandy beaches of the Mediterranean coast, Manavgat is a town and district of the Antalya Province of Turkey. Antalya is known for its festivals, with over twenty given annually.
Meanwhile, with a news lead picked up from the Ihlas News Agency, Turkish news channel HaberTurk has reported that seventeen year-old teen model Liraz Dror (pictured left) came to Istanbul today for a swimwear shoot, and ended the day by going clubbing - with her father along as her escort. Made famous in Turkey after appearing in Tarkan's "Vay Anam Vay" video, the young starlet was videoed dancing to the pop icon's "Vay" song - which is currently at the top of the domestic charts - and took time out to take pictures and sign autographs for the Turkish public.
Tarkan: The Private
In Tarkan's private life, marriage rumours are springing up this year, as they have been doing so in previous years, but just recently the reports are going further in their claims that the pop icon has actually initiated legal marriage proceedings. Today's story by reporter Nur Gülmez Bel for Turkish paper Vatan claimed that Tarkan will be getting married to his long-term partner, female lawyer Bilge Öztürk in America this summer, although the article states that he has also started marriage proceedings at his father's homestead of Rize, a province in the Turkish Black Sea region.
And finally, in an article about the phobias of the famous in Turkish newspaper Milliyet's Cafe supplement, Tarkan gets a mention, with the paper revealing that Tarkan has a fear of the dark. The article does not quote any sources.
"I go to bed with the lights on," he is reported to have said.
