Tarkan is a Great Man!

By Adelind Osmanlı reporting from Munich, Germany

Sabah columnist and one-time vociferous Tarkan critic Ayşe Özyılmazel - who in a surprise move came out in support of Tarkan last year - has in her column mentioned Tarkan once again.

Headlined as "Tarkan is a Great Man", Özyılmazel writes: "Not million dollar deals, or songs that never leave the Top 10, or making the headline news, or anything like that at all... Tell me dear reader, what else does a person want to hear but these words? Nothing, in my opinion... Everything else is just small fry... This is the real deal! This is the only way to feel proud of yourself! What's that you ask?

"For those to say after you something like: "What a sweet, what a kind person he is..."

The female journalist goes on in her article to explain the reason behind the subject of her column.

To be a Good Person

Ayse Ozyilmazel"Let me explain; after a four day new year break I am waiting for my plane at Antalya's airport [to return to Istanbul], and as I'm surfing the internet and trying to grab a bite to eat in the VIP lounge, I chat with one of the workers there.

"During our conversation, his eyes shining bright, he says, "Do you know Tarkan was here yesterday!" As you know he had taken the stage at Mardan Palace for the New Year, so he must have returned to Istanbul the day before. Well, when the subject is Tarkan you can't help but be curious. I immediately asked, "So?" The worker: "Tarkan is really a great man. He spoke with each of us, asked us how we were, how we had spent our new year, we chatted, took photographs. He is such a sweet man, he isn't spoilt at all, really sweet, really great..." Hearing us speak, another worker came over, and went on to describe for ten minutes how sweet, how genuine a man Tarkan was.

"How easy it is to get people to say 'he's a good person' about you. When you smile, when you genuinely give your attention to the person in front of you, when you take the time to listen, then you so quickly become 'a good person'. How proud Tarkan should be... Because an expensive music video, a million dollar promotion campaign, news about hit tracks bought from Sezen [Aksu] cannot affect people the way this can really.

"This is what real life is all about. God knows I love Tarkan all the more now, straight from the heart."
