Press Snippets: Tarkan Top Pop Star
"Tarkan Doesn't Make Bad Music"
In an interview with male pop singer Emre Altuğ, Sabah reports that on a question about Tarkan's latest track "Sevdanın Son Vuruşu" ("Love's Last Strike") Altuğ purportedly said that Tarkan is someone who "takes great care" over his music.
"I've listened to a bit of it ... Tarkan doesn't produce anything bad," he said.
Listening to Tarkan
Turkish celebrities are tweeting about Tarkan, with female TV presenter and long-time Tarkan fan Ece Erken tweeting how she listened to Tarkan's latest track on the flight back from America after a 10 day trip, while Tarkan's old backing singer Murat Boz has written about his impatience for a 2010 Tarkan album.
Mentioning long-term Tarkan producer Ozan Çolakoğlu and calling Tarkan "the Boss", he tweets, "I can't wait for Ozan's and the Boss' latest hit album ...
"We've missed you for so long ... waited so long."
Tarkan Top Pop Star of the Week
Followers of Turkish pop music site Gerçek Pop have voted Tarkan top star in their weekly poll "StarMetre", a site that archives the official top Turkish pop hits every week, but paper Milliyet's variety section Cadde columnist "Party Agent" claims that some clubbers at the forerunner of Bodrum's night-life Halikarnas have been finding Tarkan's latest track "too mild".
"At one point when calls for Tarkan came from the group, I neared the DJ stand. After a quick ask around it seems that Halikarnas doesn't like Tarkan's latest track. Supposedly, as a sound they find it too mild."
Meanwhile in HTMagazin, female pop singer Tuğba Ekinci - who was recently taken under the wing of Turkish diva Nazan Öncel and who claimed to have been given a song by Tarkan - has revealed that a "diva" is to feature in her latest music release in a surprise collaboration.
When asked if that "diva" could be Tarkan, Ekinci didn't respond, but reportedly just laughed.
In Other Reports
And while a German celebrity report on MTV Europe award-winning Turkish nu metal group maNga - who came second in the 2010 Eurovision Song Contest - mentions that they were the selected warm-up act for Tarkan at Wembley in 2008, an interview with female pop singer Izel in paper Akşam mentions the megastar, too.
"It's normal. Always [musically] doing the same thing is boring. It's not so much capturing the era, but creating excitement," she is reported to have said.
Finally, Milliyet blogger A.Nilgün Aktaş has written how she doesn't listen to Turkish music, because to her "they sound all the same with absurd lyrics.
"However, being a die-hard Tarkan fan he is the only exception. Is there even any need for me to say that he is the only exception? But as we know exceptions don't break the rule..." she writes.
