Second Classical Album On Way?

Writing for the entertainment supplement of Turkish daily Sabah, Özlem Avcı claims that "twin joys" await Tarkan with the arrival of his daughter and a new album.

Avcı says in the article that Turkish pop's iconic star is set to release a second album in the homegrown genre of classical music after the birth of his baby.

Tarkan's first tribute genre album "Ahde Vefa" was years in development, but went on to be the top selling album of 2016.

The news will make a lot of Turkish classical aficionados happy, including journalist Yalçın Toker, who recently wrote in Turktime of his listening to Tarkan's classical covers on the way to the small costal town of İğneada.

Toker describes the joys of listening to Tarkan's "soul caressing" vocal performance on the journey, while also taking the opportunity to congratulate the singer on his 26th year in music.

The Turktime correspondent also touched upon environmental matters concerning the small town, and the issues of dolphin corpses washing upon the shore.

İğneada is on the Black Sea coast and is approximately 5 km south of the Mutludere river which forms the border with Bulgaria.

Elsewhere, social media platform Onedio has published three articles that mention Tarkan. One is a list of 13 music videos from the nineties that would be banned in Turkey today.

At number 11 of Onedio's "couldn't be filmed now" list is Tarkan's 2001 hit single "Hüp". Strictly speaking a video right at the end of nineties, the kissing in the video did get Tarkan in trouble with the TV watchdog, but it was not banned.

Arguably, a number of Tarkan's videos pushed the artistic envelope in the nineties, and many of them would not be made today.

Next up is a regurgitation of the "dark legends" that haunt the singer's past that appeared on a social commentary site.

Whether or not true, Onedio reprints claims that have been circulating for some years about his brushes with death, suicidal episodes and troubled childhood.

The third Onedio piece follows the latest social media posts in celebland, and the misfortunes and scandals that swirl in its crucible of digital fire.

It touches upon the recent "missing children" furore in Turkey that has been trending on social media, and Tarkan's passionate reaction calling for harsher punishments.

It goes on to say that, unlike Tarkan, some celebrities attempted to politicise the tragic events, openly asking for the death penalty - in line with the current Turkish administration's proposals.

Tarkan's ex-backing singer Murat Boz and popstress Demet Akalın social media posts were amongst the most prominent, but they suffered a social media backlash. Akalın enjoyed a celeb spat over her posts, while Boz was ridiculed for posting his "misery" while rocking in a tourist hotspot.

And finally, an NTV report on how celebrities change over the years has reprinted an 18-year-old photo with Tarkan and his young vocalist Boz on a yacht, which resurfaced this January.

The article says the young Boz in the photo is unrecognizable as the Boz of today.
