Tarkan Welcomes "Beautiful Patience"

Turkish pop's megastar has shared his first picture of his daughter on social media, confirming the baby's birth date, name and gender in one of the most beautiful pictures Tarkan has shared so far with his millions of followers around the world.

Born on 12 July, the couple's baby girl Liya (Leeyah) has arrived to "rise like a sun" in the lives of her parents.

Tarkan called his joy "indescribable" thanks to the new sunshine in their lives. The post attracted nearly 400,000 likes in the first hours of posting.

German news wires have also been quick to write about the birth, describing the German-born popstar's joy. Lifestyle wires and local press have all run with Tarkan's social share of the new addition to his family.

Tarkan married one of his fans in 2016, after a five-year clandestine relationship hidden from the press.

What's in a Name?

Other articles meanwhile have been discussing the name "Liya". Boxer says that it is of Arabic origin and means "most patient" and "the best of patience" or "patience in its most beautiful form".

Some families in Turkey traditionally pick names with Islamic connotations, but although Liya is not mentioned in the Quran, the Islamic tradition recognises it as the name of Jacob's wife, known as Leah in most of the Western world.

In other cultures, the name Liya is a girl's name of Hebrew, Russian origin meaning "I am with God". It is pronounced like Leah, and is also a Russian variation of Lia and Lily. Rather than using Liya, English speakers normally use Leah or Lia.

Before Tarkan revealed the name of his daughter today, rumours on Turkish TV and in the press had said Tarkan would be naming his daughter Lidya (Lydia).

Going on the baby's birth date, in the Zodiac the baby's sign is Cancer, while astrologers believe the story of people born on this date is often extremely emotionally demanding until they find a way to shine as unique individuals in this world.

If the stars are right, it seems the story of little Liya will be like father, like daughter.
