Iconic Turkish pop megastar Tarkan has posted a video on social media confirming the rumours that he is to be a father.

The singer was beaming with pride as he shared the news with his followers. The video was watched over three million times in nine hours of posting.

There have been constant rumours in the Turkish press about a baby Tarkan. The singer said in the video, "perhaps they sensed it... It's true. I'm going to be a father."

Reactions to Baby News

Meanwhile, the baby news has made waves across social media and the traditional press - including foreign music channels. Dutch urban radio station FunX reported that Tarkan's announcement would end the gossip in Turkey.

In Turkish channels, however, much news was made of the social media reaction and the videos popping up lampooning Tarkan's own video of the news.

Elsewhere, some Turkish celebs congratulated Tarkan and expressed their desire for children, too, while others mimicked Tarkan to bemoan the fact they had no children.

Three articles took note of the Tarkan parodies and were critical of Tarkan's Instagram game, likening his facial expressions in the video to a horror film, while others criticised Tarkan for his timing, with Turkey's current millitary operations in Syria.

While the critical response has not been as caustic as Justin Timberlake's recent backlash in the US, Tarkan's public happiness was deemed to be in bad taste while the country is mourning the deaths of Turkish soldiers.
